Two numbers matter, not one. kW is how fast the system can deliver power — it has to cover your peak demand. kWh is how long it can keep doing that. A site with short, sharp load spikes needs kW; a site running through a long outage or a full off-peak window needs kWh. Sizing on capacity alone is the most common mistake.

Where these pay back. Peak shaving against demand charges, storing cheap off-peak or solar energy for daytime use, and replacing diesel runtime at sites with unreliable grid supply.
